Tasting Notes:

Rosebank 1989 @ 50% alc.vol (US 100% proof)
Slightly dry floral nose with a palate that is lightly creamy and sweet. Like a nectar of flowers. Typical Rosebank. The finish is drier again, herbal, tickling, arousing and appetizing. A beautiful whisky from a distillery that was widely regarded as the finest Lowland Malt. Distillery mothballed 1993.

Rosebank Distillery - Area: Lowlands

Status: Closed

Rosebank was the most revered of all Lowland malts. There are conflicting references to the distillery origins as the first record of distilling was in 1798. Official records for Rosebank show it was founded in 1842 by James Rankine. Rosebank was referred to, as the ‘Falkirk distillery’. The distillery was located at Camelon, a village just north of Falkirk and between Glasgow and Edinburgh on the banks of the Forth-Clyde Canal. The water used was sourced from a reservoir in Carron Valley.

Rosebank utilised the traditional triple distillation method with one wash still and two spirit stills. This produced a light, aromatic whisky with a style most suited as an aperitif. Rosebank whispered a pretty floral character with perhaps a suggestion of clover and a hint of fruit. The last owners of Rosebank Distillery were United Distillers who closed it down in 1993. It was converted to a restaurant.
