Glen Elgin Distillery - Area: Speyside

Status: Open

The Glen Elgin distillery was built in 1898 (the last distillery to be built in Speyside for 60 years) and is located 2 miles south of Elgin on the road to Rothes. With 8 distilleries converging on the River Lossie as it enters Elgin, Glen Elgin is not the closest distillery to Elgin ! Water sourced is from springs near Millbuies Loch. Glen Elgin operates 6 stills (3 spirit and 3 wash stills). All the stills are similar in size and shape, with the spirit stills having flatter pots. There is a gentle incline on the lyne arms, from the neck to the worm tubs located outside. Glen Elgin is highly rated by blenders (it is a component of the White Horse Blend). There is rarity on the Single Malt due to the high demand from blenders and only became available as a Single Malt in the 1960s. The whisky is noted for its honey and tangerine fruitiness. Suitable as an after-dinner malt.
