Tasting Notes:

Deanston 1977 @ 50% alc.vol (US 100% proof)
Only unpeated malt is used in this agile, pleasing whisky - any peat detected will originate from the water supply (River Teith). Clean and elegant light nose. Easy on the palate with a nutty sweetness and hints of fruit. Finish is subtle and light. Slightly oily and sweet. A really well balanced whisky.

Deanston Distillery Information - Area: Highlands

Status: Open

The Deanston distillery was established in 1966 following conversion from its orginal use as a cotton mill built in 1785. Deanston is located in the Southern Highlands, close to Doune and sits on the banks of the River Teith. The distillery water is sourced from the river which originates in the nearby Trossachs. Flowing from feeder streams the water is filtered by its run over granite and the peat beds. These soft waters are held in high regard to be one of the purest in Scotland. The distillery has 2 pairs of stills with tall, narrow necks and fat pots with unusual upwards-inclined lyne arms, from the swan neck to the condensers are arranged to encourage a reflux action and deliver a lighter, purer spirit. The beautiful enclosed riverside warehouse is today used for maturing – it used to be the vaulted weaving shed. Deanston is produced using unpeated malt. Any peat detected will come from the water supply. The house style of Deanston is light and elegant. The whisky is very smooth with hints of fruit and smoke and a detectable malty sweetness. Very easy to drink.
