Tasting Notes:
Bruichladdich 1991 @ 50% alc.vol (US 100%
proof)
Nose has an Atlantic freshness delivering hints of fruit
and lemon meringue. Unfolds beautifully with the fragrance
of the oak. Firm palate brings warmth. Well balanced in
a complexity of sweet spicy flavours of clover honey and
stewed fruits. Finish builds to a crescendo. A substantial
bottling with lovely variations on the Islay theme.

Bruichladdich
Distillery - Area: Islay |
|
Status: Open
| Established 1881 - the same year as the Bunnahabhain
distillery. Translation from Gaelic means “ raised
beach ”. Bruichladdich is located on the Rinns
of Islay, the western side of Islay. From the northshore
of Loch Indaal, Bruichladdich faces the Bowmore distillery
across the Loch. Bruichladdich sources its water from
springs in the hills behind the distillery and has 4
stills (2 wash and 2 spirit) and these are noted to
have the tallest necks on Islay, allowing for a lighter,
more refined spirit. Lightly peated barley is used.
For maturation, the 10 on-site warehouses are located
next to the Atlantic Ocean and provide an added factor
for casks to absorb the coastal atmospherics and obtain
the briny, salty, seaside characteristic. Since 2003,
Bruichladdich is the only Islay distillery to bottle
on-site. Bruichladdich is a lighter Islay styled malt
with salty hints of passion fruit. Recommend as an aperitif. |
